The Iowa City VAQS fellowship provides two years of post-residency, post-doctoral quality improvement, research, and clinical and leadership learning opportunities to eligible physician, nursing, and associated health professionals with clinical roles. Fellows spend approximately 80% of their time in research and educational activities focused on Improvement and Implementation Science and Leading Healthcare Improvement, and 20% in clinical care (or direct improvement activities in nursing or associated health professions). Fellows gain knowledge and ability to design, implement, manage, and monitor quality improvement (QI) projects, and competence in designing, conducting, and facilitating quality improvement (QI) research studies. As well, fellows gain working skills and knowledge in healthcare informatics. As part of the Iowa City VAQS fellowship, clinicians join a national network of practice change leaders.
