Samantha Solimeo, PhD, MPH

Dr. Solimeo is a medical anthropologist who joined the Iowa City VA Health Care System in 2010. Her primary role is Director of Operations for the VA Office of Rural Health Veterans Rural Health Resource Center—Iowa City. Dr. Solimeo is an Investigator with the Center for Access & Delivery Research and Evaluation (CADRE); Associate Director of the Primary Care Analysts Team—Iowa City; and Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Dr. Solimeo maintains active lines of research in team science and management of geriatric conditions. For example, she has been examining team-based primary prevention models for delivering fracture prevention care to rural Veterans.

Under this umbrella, she has studied clinical team structure, care processes, clinic implementation, criteria for selecting Veterans with fracture risk, Veteran preferences for and experience of care, and clinical outcomes. Her research is guided by her desire to support older adults and healthy aging along with contributing to our knowledge of how to structure and lead care teams that provide patient-centered care to Veterans. She believes that caring for older adults is part of our social contract and being able to conduct research to improve the lives of aging Veterans reflects her personal values and her vision of a just society.
