Heather Schacht Reisinger, PhD
Dr. Reisinger is an Investigator at the Center for Access & Delivery Research and Evaluation (CADRE) at the Iowa City VA, Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, as well as the Associate Director of Engagement, Integration, and Implementation of the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (ICTS) at the University of Iowa. As a medical anthropologist and health services researcher, her research focuses on the implementation of evidence-based practice into routine care, particularly in the areas of telemedicine and rural health.
She has methodological expertise in ethnography, which includes conducting conversational interviews and unobtrusive observations of how healthcare happens in practice to examine how and why an intervention is or is not working. She is a PI or MPI on three VA HSR&D grants. Her goal in research is to examine the full complexity of the healthcare system by incorporating stakeholders’ perspectives in the research findings that can guide improvements in quality of care for Veterans as well as access to care that meets their needs.
