Dr. Thad Abrams is an Investigator in CADRE. A dual board certified staff physician at the Iowa City VAMC in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry, and an Associate in Internal Medicine in the University of Iowa. Following residency training, Dr. Abrams completed a VA Quality Scholars fellowship in 2007 and a VA HSR&D postdoctoral fellowship in 2009. Dr. Abrams received an HSR&D Career Development Award in 2010 to continue pursuing a research career at the VAMC. He brings expertise in integrating the clinical management of medical and psychiatric illness and has conducted important research on assessing the impact of psychiatric comorbidities on outcomes of acute medical care. Through his clinical work in a unique combined Internal Medicine and Psychiatry Clinic at the Iowa City VAMC and his prior research, Dr. Abrams has developed a strong interest in developing methods for identifying patients with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), in identifying variations in PTSD treatment, and in determining effective treatment strategies for PTSD.
