Dr. Wakefield is an Investigator whose research focus is design and evaluation of e-health communication technologies to improve access and quality care for chronically ill veterans. She is also the Clinical Coordinator of the VA eHealth QUERI, which is evaluating uptake of eHealth in the VA system. Her studies have included evaluating the feasibility of telemedicine between patients at a distant state veterans’ home and VA Medical Center, and two randomized controlled trials evaluating home telehealth in chronically ill veterans. With funding from the Office of Rural Health, she designed a project to implement and evaluate a telephone-based Phase 2 cardiac rehabilitation program to improve access for rural veterans.
